About Me

Hi, I’m Nitin Agarwal—a Chartered Accountant, tax transformation professional, a strong proponent of Tax Technology and writer-in-progress. Learning every day to lead with clarity, compassion, and purpose.

My journey started in my early twenties when I set up a small consulting firm in Assam, India. It wasn’t grand, but it taught me responsibility early—how to show up, take ownership, and solve problems with what I had. Since then, I’ve spent nearly three decades working across audit, finance, and tax—shifting roles, countries, and perspectives along the way.

Today, I lead indirect tax operations across countries as Director of Indirect Tax at Majid Al Futtaim. My work spans tax compliance, ERP systems, data pipelines, and cross-functional collaboration. But more than tools or processes, I try to bring consistency, trust, and quiet accountability to the teams and systems I support.

Over the years, I’ve made a few unconventional choices—moving to Dubai in 2010, stepping into internal audit when I had little background, and later leading transformation programs across tax, finance, and Tax technology & ERP implementation. Some of those choices led to growth. Others taught me humility. I also co-founded a purpose-driven startup that didn’t scale—but it shifted how I think about impact, success, and intention.

I hold qualifications from ICAI (Chartered Accountant and DISA), ADIT, and INSEAD’s Global Executive MBA (Class of 2023). Returning to structured learning after two decades was never about credentials—it was about staying curious, asking better questions, and reflecting on what kind of leader I want to be.

In 2022, during my time at INSEAD, I began working on a project titled Tax Transformation Projects in Large Multinational Organizations. That work later evolved into a book—Extinction of Tax As We Know It—a business fiction story that blends lived experience with narrative storytelling. Writing it has been a way to give back to the profession that shaped me—and to live out my own belief that work should carry meaning, and leadership should serve more than just performance.

Outside of work, I’m a Author, speaker, and mentor where I can be helpful. I still read case law like stories. I still explore emerging tech like a student. And above all, I’m a proud father of two thoughtful, curious kids—who remind me daily that how we live is just as important as what we do.
