Nitin Agarwal was featured in the ITR Global Tax 50 (2025), recognising his influence as a leading in-house tax professional and thought leader shaping the future of the tax profession.

International Tax Review noted that Agarwal “cemented himself as an in-house luminary in more ways than one in 2025.”In September, he was named ITR EMEA In-House Indirect Tax Leader of the Year, recognising his visionary role in leading Majid Al Futtaim’s tax technology transformation.

The feature further highlighted Agarwal’s unconventional approach to thought leadership, pointing to the publication of his business-fiction novel, Extinction of Tax As We Know It.

The book dramatises the global tax and finance transformation of a Fortune 500 multinational, offering a narrative lens into the structural, technological, and human challenges facing modern tax functions.

Speaking to International Tax Review, Agarwal explained the motivation behind the work:

“There is a gap in understanding how technology fits within the profession.Through this book, I’ve tried to address that. Here are some of the global problems we face as tax functions, and here’s a proper solution.”

He added:

“We will have to transform ourselves into fusion leaders, understanding aspects of data analytics, technology, AI, machine learning and e-invoicing.”

This recognition places Nitin Agarwal among a global cohort of tax leaders, policymakers, and innovators whose work is influencing how tax functions evolve in response to technology, regulation, and changing expectations of leadership.
